through the hazy window

i'm here, but not really here. 

i'm here outside, looking in.

can you see me, can you hear me?
if you do, please say hello
or perhaps touch my hand really slow

can you listen, can we talk?
can we hold hands while we walk?
i see you smiling, i see you laughing
i see you dancing and twirling around

can i join in, can i laugh too?
i'd very much like to dance with you

but no, you can't hear me
you can't see me through
a whisper, a scream, a knock on the door won't even do

i look at my reflection, and what do i see
a dream, an illusion, a spirit, one lonely old me.

but i'm real, can't you tell
i hope you'd understand
i just feel invisible ... one invisible soul, maybe that's what i really am.
