ouch, that hurts

nikki got her first set of immunization shots since she got out of Cedars-Sinai. and she didn't like them at all ... go figure! like her first shot, hepatitis b, which was given while she was at the hospital, there were no hissy fits, no glass shattering screams. but yes, the tears flowed and there was a bit of crying ... though only for a short time (when the needles went through her thigh).

my poor baby's in pain

she was smiling and giggling before the shot went in and then her face just turned bright red. it was pretty interesting to watch her face change. from a picture of happiness (from having a full, long nap and a just finished feeding) to one in utter pain and shock. it was heart wrenching. dwight and i was holding her hand on both sides. she cried for about 10seconds and then stopped. then the second needle went in, and she cried some more. and so it went, 4 shots in all.

she got the "2-month series" of recommended immunizations which included:

*Hep B/ Hib: Hepatitis B and Haemophilus Influenzae Type B vaccines *PCV: Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine
* DTaP: Diptheria, Tetanus and Pertussis vaccines
* IPV: Inactivated Polio vaccine * Rotateq: Rotavirus vaccine

wow! that was difficult to type. much more for an infant to take in 4 actual shots (2 shots in each thigh) and having to swallow an oral vaccine in between cries. poor baby! but she's so brave.
she slept on the way back home and while we made a short stop at the local ralph's store to buy some ice cream (for mom) and her vitamin supplement. she had slight fever so we gave her infant tylenol which i think helped her a lot with the pain. she was able to sleep through the night (at 8pm), only to wake up at around 12mn hungry and wanting me to take her to bed with me. she slept on my chest holding on to me all night ... seeking mommy's comforting hug, while i hushed her to sleep with her favorite lullaby.
