| 10 months | for everyone |
Dear Nikki,
It's that time of the month again for birthday letters, and this is your 10th month. Happy 10 months, sweetie!
This month, you've developed quite a unique personality. You seem to have grown up overnight, and you definitely no longer look or act like a baby. I've received several comments from strangers we meet, about how big and tall for a 10 month old you are. And the silliest comment you got by far was from this old lady with her 8 year old grandkid. She said this to you after I told her your name, "Hello Anika, you're so pretty and the way you dress look so sophisticated. I like it so much. Meet my grandson, Adam." What did you do in response? You smiled at her quite hesitantly, but flashed your sweet toothy smile at Adam! Shucks! Unsaon! Hahaha!
You chatter on and on all day long, while playing on the floor, or eating on your highchair, or in the car when we'd go out, or in the bathtub when I'd clean you up, or on your changing table while we change nappies, and even sometimes in the quiet of the night when we're trying to catch some sleep. I wish I knew what you are saying, my dear. Sometimes it sounds to me as though you're telling a story, at others it's like a major speech or something. And at night, when you're voice gets mellow and hushed, it seemed like you're telling a secret, only known to you and your imaginary friend.

Now that you've mastered rolling and belly crawling, it's getting quite difficult to leave by yourself while you're in bed. When you're sleeping, I have to go back & forth into the room to check if you've awaken already ... lest you'd roll off the bed. And you're getting closer and closer to your first independent steps. You can now pretty much stand for long stretches holding on to your intellitainer or the kiddie gate or to a furniture without easily toppling over. The best thing is we don't have to hold you now, we've let go and you're fine with that. You just love walking ... that is, while being held on both hands. You know when it's time for a stroll when we put on those cute little shoes on you. And you sit still and start giggling till we're done and off you go taking those mighty little steps. We can't wait to see you walk around on your own and run around the grassy spot at the mall.

I've learn there are two things you seem to love so much, kids and music! Oh, how you love kids ... real ones and even those in pictures. You're now picky with whom you're gonna smile at, but with kids, you smile at them as much as pennies in a fountain. You recognize them in books too, even throwing a kiss or two. Whenever I'd ask you where's the baby, you'd point them in book and start giggling and leaning over to kiss. As with music, your taste is pretty eclectic ... from rock to rap to lullabies and commercial jingles. If there's one you like that's playing, we'd know right away as you would start rocking your body back and forth and bobbing your head up and down. You look so adorable doing that! And you've learn how to wave too, well, kind of. Whenever I'd say bye bye, you'd lift your arm - no movement, you just open your hand -- sweet.
You are truly a special little baby. Maybe all kids are like this, but then I can't help but feel there's something extra special with you, baby girl. Thank you for being you, Langga! Our life gets better everyday, Nikki, and it's all because of you.
Love,
Mommy
